childhood flowers

Walking around the neighbourhood last night, with the dog, I decided I would take inventory of all the flowers I remember from my childhood. I think I have only a handful of strong recollections, lantana being one of them. I did not know that this was considered a weed. As a child I saw the little flowers in micro on hot summer days.

today

Today we went in to the Powerhouse Museum to see the Diana exhibition. I have a soft spot for Diana. I got this tea towel a couple of years ago but don't use it, I just have it for no reason.

We then went into Chinatown for Yumcha for which I don't have a soft spot for. Blech.
A fun day on the whole.

a day at the circus

We went to the circus last Sunday. It has taken me a week to get over it. The reason? The clown mocked me. Now I hate clowns as much as the next person but he sensed my complete abhorrence and honed in on it. I'll just set a brief picture. There was pointing, Harpo Marx type whistles and laughing (not from me). Damn clown, he wasnt really a clown anyway like in the picture, not five minutes before I saw him selling fairy floss in the trailer outside.

Picture from a 1950/60s reader called Stories to Read. It nearly bought tears to the lady in the os as she recalled how she read this book when she was little. I haven't been able to process this as to why this has stuck in my brain.
Got no gardening done today. The closest I got to it was hanging out the washing. There is always tomorrow.

dress for summer part 1

Last Sunday I went to The Way We Wear Fair. It is held a couple of times a year in my neck of the woods. I go, just to have a look around, a friend has a stall there and you never know what you'll find. Usually it is very overpriced but after about half an hour I acclimatise to this.
I bought this pretty dress this time around. It is homemade and fits perfectly.

Up close and personal with the fabric. Its yummy.

And wait, I'd know that head anywhere. Its me watching the fashion parade earlier in the year.

shapes

I am going to try and post everyday in October. To free up some brain space.
Shapes, I go out of my way to notice them.

WALKING IN THE BURBS

A beautiful morning for a walk and being a public holiday no rushing. These are a few quirks that always catch my eye. Thank goodness winter is over.

Going for Thai food today with the family. I may even take some pictures of that. Spring gives me a different outlook.
Added: I didnt take any pictures. My MIL came with us and she just wouldn't understand me taking pictures of food and I just could never expalin.

ALOOMINUM

A 195o's caravan from the fair. So small, not my idea of a good holiday, I must say. It would be just like staying home. Even the interior reminded me somewhat of my home, in particular the aluminium pots. 'Look mum'! Steph said and then walked away shaking her head and giggling. For indeed inside was a dripping pot.

These have been popping up everywhere on my rounds. I got a cake tin as well. I will not use them for foodstuffs though. I think I read a connection about Alzheimer's and aluminum. Now what was I saying.

End part two of 195os fair talk.

FITS

Earlier in the year we went to an antique & collectibles come tat fair. I saw a pair of these at one of the stands and instantly fell in love with them. The seller was asking an exorbitant amount so I turned on my heels saying to myself and all that cared to listen hes dreaming, hes having a laugh, daylight bleedin' robbery mutter mutter mutter. The Mr. said he could make me a pair. To cut a long story short, I wont even go there.
So there we were at the fifties fair and look what should be there but my pair of glove art at a price that was not only reasonable but one that I didn't give a second thought to. I like it when things like this happen.

SCENES FROM A FAIR

Well my experiment didn't go to plan. I thought if I took a break from doing this caper my house would miraculously be cleaner as I would not be focusing on anything else. Didn't work, still in a pickle. I think I have done this before and I just never learn.
So some catching up. It will look like I'm a really interesting person.
We went to the 195o's fair a couple of weeks ago here in Sydney at Rose Seidler house. A good day was had. Pretty girls all dolled up and glamorous. A bargain to be had.

This is on the patio. Its a quite small house surprisingly.

This is just a young girl who I noticed in the crowd. She is wearing a cute apron done in chicken scratch.

And look, this is me and my family on this website. See the guy in the sunglasses and brown jacket, that theres the Mr and my son is behind him. I'm behind his head talking to the lady, can you see??? you may have to squint. My daughter just gets a tiny look in. I don't know about you but I was thrilled.
